Weld County socialist demoncrats gathered saturday for their annual dinner, and true to form it was a partisan event. Senate president Brandon Shaffer was the featured speaker, but even he missed some of the key elements in what he stated.
For example, Shaffer talked about how we needed to work together to make things better in the state, and bemonaned the fact that our tax revenues were down. However, he failed to mention the fact that for the past 40 years Colorado has had a demoncratic governor for the majority of that time, blocking most of the tax moves and economic incentives the conservatives have brought to the gubernatorial desk.
Shaffer also mentioned the fact that the state controls roughly $6.6 billion in budget finances, which is about the same as it was in 2001. However, Colorado has added 700,000 residents during that same period, which makes for leaner times, forcing the state to do more with less.
But let's look a little deeper at what has occurred during this timeframe. Big businesses and well-paying jobs fled the state because of the liberal, anti-business climate, and they took their tax revenues with them. Thanks to the efforts of Bill Ritter and then-Denver mayor Hickenlooper, we witnessed the departure of notable companies such as Frontier, Qwest and others.
But those 700,000 new Colorado residents should be generating a measure of tax revenue themselves, shouldn't they? Yes they should, unless they are illegal, working poor, or have been hamstrung themselves because of undue regulation. This was conveniently ignored, because it damned the liberal, embrace-all agenda.
There's an old saying; "the devil is in the details." Shaffer's remarks saturday night omitted most of the devil, because he was speaking to the partisan faithful. The socialists still want to force communal behavior and their ideology on everyone around them. They want to tax whoever they deem to be rich, and give the proceeds to whoever they consider to be poor. They want green, but don't like oil, gas, or anyone else they think could harm their environment. They like putting a child on socialized medicine, but think killing babies inside the womb is fine...all in the same program. It was the same old reworked mantra satuday. And it showed how completely out of touch with reality most demoncrats truly are.

Powerball,
Doesn't that mean less government? I wish everybody could understand that. It's such a simple concept..., you know, like our founding fathers intended.

The gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and politicians who want to rule over them may be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century. The American people don't want to be governed from the left, the right, or the center. They want to govern themselves.
