Liberal demoncratic Senator Pat Steadman has once again proposed a measure of tax amnesty, to try and alleviate some of the budget pressure he says is being placed on education in the state of Colorado. Steadman's plan (SB-184) may sound like a good idea if you merely read headlines. But in truth it illustrates critical differences between socialist demoncrats and conservatives.
This plan makes no permanent changes to current state tax burdens. Zero. Instead, it creates a program that spends state funds to advertise and provide special exeptions to those that already owe taxes. (NOTE: This can already be handled in-house on a case-by-case basis without a bill.) While Steadman says that education faces a $250 million cut, his proposal would generate at the most...$9.5 million. That's all. Of course he says it's a start, but in reality, the program he proposes may in itself consume most of the proceeds, creating a net gain of zero. But it looks good, sounds good, and the media loves the headlines! And they also love to bash the conservatives that oppose it on the merits of good business sense.
In the meantime, the conservatives have tried to press for tax cuts. These are not suspensions of taxes, nor are they amnesty programs. They are serious, permanent cuts that put more money into the wallets of people around the state of Colorado. What has Steadman done with these proposals? He has opposed them at every turn. They take money from the state. Well, yes. The people that live in the state need the money, and he is charged with finding ways to make government work without a golden goose. So in one simple piece of proposed legislation, we see the serious differences between the socialist libs and the constitutional conservatives.
Greeley Report doesn't expect this bill to pass the Senate. But it should spark some interesting debate. And you should watch Hickenlooper and the Demoncrats like a hawk. So far he has had the demoncrats in the House do his dirty work. But if a bill get to his desk that seriously cuts taxes it will be interesting to see what he will do.

The simple answer to this is to pass a bill approving vouchers. It may reduce the tax revenues to public school system, but it would put the money in the hands of those that would be more efficient with the funds, stimulating healthy competition. Less government is the answer to EVERY government funding issue.
It used to be that the churches cared for the needy. That was until they removed God from that role by instituting government welfare. Since then our society has had less need for God inspired compassion and a greater addiction to entitlements.
And we watch the moral decay.
