Last week snowpack collectors took snow samples and measurements from 10 different locations around the state. This is a normal occurrence, and we use it to predict water levels and usage for the Summer season and throughout the year. However this time, the collectors were instructed to bring in the samples and store them. Why?
It seems the state of Colorado may want to test these samples at some point in the future, to determine radiation levels from the meltdown presently occurring in Japan (link to recent article here). Radiation has been detected in rainwater in California, and it's only natural that it would continue to move in this direction.
Greeley Report has an idea. Test the samples now! If there is an increasing danger of radiation levels due to the ongoing crisis, it would be better to know sooner rather than later. Contact your state representatives and insist the tests begin now, and the results be made public. It's essential that an informed public be aware of the implications of this disaster at the local level. Government at every level has displayed their lack of concern for the average citizen. They won't do this unless it is demanded of them. Test the samples now.
