This week the Greeley city council took action to review and repeal the mandate that indoor sprinkler/fire suppression systems be installed in new houses built in Greeley. Greeley Report has written about this in the past, and after review the members of city council repealed this mandate. Implemented January, 2011, this regulation alone would have added several thousand to the cost of every new home built in Greeley. It would have also placed unreasonable pressure on the owners of older homes, to have them retrofitted in order to comply with codes.
Greeley found itself as the only city in this region that even approved the draconian measure in the first place. Building standards are usually reviewed and implemented with periodic changes. Some cities adopt their own, but Greeley decided to adopt a version of the international building standards code. (Greeley Report suspects these standards are not being used in Nepal, India or various Amazon regions of Brazil, so apparently this is yet another global measure to control and enslave civilized society.) After public outcry they have now repealed this segment of the code. Good!
This is a perfect example of what can happen when bureacracy over-reaches, and an informed segment of society steps up to challenge them. Your news tips provided to Greeley Report, and your demonstrated anger toward the city of Greeley made more logical options come to the forefront. As the old saying about politicians goes, "when they feel the heat, they see the light."

still new construction is almost non existant.
