After Greeley Report released it's column yesterday another reader alerted this blog to yet another foolish move by the State of Colorado. Colorado is required to balance it's budget each year, to comply with the state Constitution. However, the way this is done is by using Federal dollars and smoke-and-mirror accounting practices so that things can look good for the sheeple.
According to documents released by the Colorado Division of Labor and Employment, the state unemployment fund is broke. To cover ongoing costs, the state has been borrowing money from the Federal government, and must now pay interest to cover this debt. This interest alone is ratcheting up into the millions. The state is looking for more money, to alleviate this crisis. So where do they turn? To existing Colorado businesses, of course! They are going to increase the amount of money businesses put into this fund, to pay for the state's lack of forecasting (under Demoncratic leadership, I might add).
Greeley report will attach a link to the actual letter so you can read it for yourself. But Greeley Report has a couple of ideas that would help solve these issues in and of themselves.
- First, stop penalizing businesses! Citizens and employers are paying enough! Find the adjustments within the funds we give you, and stop looking to us as your cash cows.
- Second, make sure every social program recipient is drug tested. If they test positive, the social programs stop. Florida can do it. Why can't we?
- Third, stop paying for illegals. Senator Renfroe uncovered nearly $20 million in expenditures at one point alone, that was going to non-citizens. This funding should be used for citizens instead.
The point is this. The state receives plenty of money. But it must be allocated properly. The pressure is on, and the cash cow is getting mighty thin. If Colorado is to retain business and successful people, it must seek out ways to slash spending, decrease regulation and taxes, and rein in unbridled liberals that constantly think the world owes them more. (Click here to read the letter from the state.)

The point of this article is simple; politicians are spenda-holics on parallel with a crack head.
Colorado and its municipalities have significant debt; just check enterprise funds and certificates of participation. The budget maybe balanced but we are in way over or heads.
Ben Bernanke will inflate and redistribute. It will keep government going for a little longer. Repeat.
Unions drive the wagon.

It is genetics, not drugs. Stop paying them to have babies and stop preventing them from preventing more babies.
No, this is not eugenics.

Dennis,
I25-34 is a special Loveland/McWhinney deal. You will have to ask them about it.

Our government, State and Federal, is out of control. Remember that report that the GAO put out in March? It was about duplicate effort/expenditure. Why is this no longer an issue? The left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Is this indicative of a government that is too big? Could we reduce government and save money? Perhaps we should review every government program and test it to the Constitution.
What would happen if we spent 2% less, across the board, this year over last? What if we did that every year? Think we would adapt?
Anybody see all of the money being spent on the I-25/US34 intersection? Doesn't that seem out of place, given our present economic situation? Does that say something about obam's stimulus plan? I drove North through that intersection up to the 392 exit ramp. At that ramp was an old Vietnam war veteran in a wheel chair begging for money. Now I thought to myself; we spend $400 billion a year on entitlements, and you want more? Then I thought about the overpass at I-25/US34 and wondered how much that cost. How much will it cost to maintain? Is it important that we look like Boulder? More important than the well being of this man that served our country?
There is too much wrong with the way our country operates. It almost makes me ashamed. No wait...., I'll own that! I am ashamed. I am ashamed that our country is run by unqualified, self interested politicians, that have no more dignity or self respect than a Weiner!....oops. America. It was a good idea.
Did you know that our government is a republic, not a democracy. That's why we have a Constitution.
