The preceding words come from one of the most powerful documents on freedom ever created. Self-evident truths are not the truths of the masses, age, or an agenda. They are self-evident. All men are created equal in opportunity, but we don't have to pay each other's way. You are entitled to equal freedom, but not my wealth nor freedom.
We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights. These rights are not given through philosophy, but by the Judeo-Christian God of our heritage. Not all of the rights He grants are listed. But the three that are listed include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Life begins in the womb and ends at our last breath. Liberty must be fought for once again. We are presently under tyranny. However, liberty has obligations and can be dangerous. Many people would trade it in for security. Happiness is not guaranteed. We are free to pursue it, but we may not get it. Just because we pursue a cause or direction doesn't mean it's right or will grant us true satisfaction. But here in America we can still pursue our paths.

I don't know Dennis, but when people question my loyalty to and lecture me about American principles because I don't think the law should do anything to interfere with gays or pot smokers, I'd prefer that those people have a decent understanding of American history and our Constitution. That's all.

Alright! It's The Declaration of Independence. You people are insufferable! It's the intent, no? I would offer that during the Revolution that these words were prerequisite to our Constitution.
And because it is not in the Constitution, that makes it irrelevant?
