Greeley's neighbor to the south, the city of Evans has a new ballot proposal in the latest election. Rather, there are four proposals, to create a new fire protection district. For some it sounds good. They believe it will provide more protection and streamline things between various current city fire departments. While this is true, it is built on a tax increase and avoids a fundamental issue.
Many years ago cities were organized for specific reasons. People joined together into towns and cities, so that shared resources could benefit them all. Some cities were forts or castles, with walls for projection. However as time moved on, the common bonds changed. Today the basic elements in any city are water/sewer, protection (police), and fire. While it is true that a city is nicer with broad streets, parks, recreational facilities, and other things, these three are the core of the city. So why would Evans want to make their fire department into a separate "District?"
The appetite of government always increases, and somebody must tell it no. But government always finds creative ways to tax and spend. One of these is to identify "districts," and break apart services. These districts can then be their own taxing group, and the city can be absolved of raising taxes for them. The mayor and city council can claim they are holding the line on spending, and fire protection is held over the city residents' heads, threatening to cut it unless the district tax increase is agreed to by voters. It's clever, and it's done all the time. But in reality the city should retain responsibility for the core of their operations, and be held accountable in city elections, under city council and the mayor.
Greeley Report thinks fire operations can be streamlined among various groups without a district being created. Interagency agreements and streamlined operations have occurred for years in other regions. It can happen here, too. Sam has further noticed that the city of Greeley fire department isn't involved in this proposal. Why? Because they are unionized, and don't like to play well with non-union folks. Behind the scenes there is political gamesmanship, and the ever-increasing desire for more tax dollars from our wallets. We must beware, and vote no. They need to learn how to manage what they have right now. We do. It's as simple as that.
The yard signs and road signs are put out by the groups that have money in their pockets. But they don't want to spend it on the real issue; just marketing so they can have your money. Consider that next time you drive down the street. And ask yourself what you could lose if you vote yes on somebody elses agenda. You could lose control in creating yet another taxing organization that extracts more from you. And you could definitely lose more money.

Bobby J,
It is not the local SWAT team that I am concerned about.
Tell me, historically; what has every fiat monetary system have in common? You can have the dollars, I'll keep the silver.
Ron Paul is brilliant. A man ahead of his time. Ultimately I believe that his foreign policy will become America's foreign policy, as we will have no choice but to protect our own borders. We will become incapable of challenging the tyranny of this world. That will be an issue for 2016. Ron Paul may have a loyal following, but he will not be able to defeat obama in 2012.
In 2008 I voted for McCain, and then promptly spat the bad taste from my mouth. In 2012 I will, once again, vote against obama....., and I fear I will spit once again.

Nixon had very little to do with the destruction of sound money. He finished what was started 200 hundred years prior.
Sound money is not debt, debt is not sound money.
Stop praying for Armageddon and start electing real representatives such as Ron Paul.
Stop trying to use government to make everyone a God Fearing God Loving Christian and stop electing religious bozos.
Your guns are as worthless as your silver. Have you seen the local swat team lately????

Yes Bobby J. You are correct. But since money is debt and debt is money, in the seventies under Nixon, the government realized that people would begin to wonder what value was behind their money, their labors. People were starting to ask why a cup of coffee went from a nickel to .75 and then they also would realize their buying power didn't follow suit. Don't you think they could figure that a handful of coffee beans ground up, mixed with water, and heated shouldn't be worth the .75-$2.00 they were paying for it since that currency was backed by gold? Were a few coffee beans worth all that gold? Or the labor used to produce it wasn't being paid proportionally. If wages were equal, why were we cutting back on spending.
The government and other governments around the world realized they, just like the the population, was running out of gold to back their spending and to say that the dollar was worth what more they wanted to spend. So they changed the rules of the game and did away with tangible wealth, gold, and reverted to a promise; a mans handshake. That was the new worth something until they too forgot the handshake when they saw they could line their own pockets with real-estate, diamonds, and luxury items if they could just get reelected or perpetuated the illusion of money through government regulation, mandates, laws, and taxes. So they wrapped up a pretty package to sell to citizens of the world; subprime loans and entitlement programs. To he'll with a mans word and his handshake. If your going down, you best grab all you can while the getting is good and go out with a bang!
One last thing you might do to elude your victims as you hightail it out of town is to create a huge smoke screen. That they did with Obamacare, TARP, the stimulus, QE one and two.
I will tell you this. Once the smoke clears the American people will wakeup that their life style has been set back 100 years. Then the revolution of throwing out our current legislators, closing down the Fed, and finding ways to block the greed from our democracy will be over and we, the people, can pickup the pieces and start over again.
There is no other way.

Mankind has not been crucified with a crown of gold.
On the contrary, he is being sold an illusion of wealth.
The money in your pocket isn't backed by gold nor is it backed by the supply of goods and services.
It is good for so long as the government says it is...after that you can paper the outhouse with it.
Watch this to understand how your money is created since it not backed by anything of value other than your belief that it's worth something.
After watching this you WILL wonder why we bailed out the banks with TARP.
The answer to that is two-fold. One is that if they hadn't perpetuated the illusion of your money's worth the game would be over. The more important second reason is that not only are we severely in debt because that is all our money turely is is debt, but TARP increased that debt into infinity!
For some the secret of how the magician cuts the woman in half is reveal, you know it is a trick, but you watch the show anyway because it's the only show in town. Once they get tired of telling you fanciful little stories to put you to sleep at night you will find their authority comes at the point of a gun.
There is not 14 Trillion dollars worth of gold in the entire world. That should tell you something. Now watch the video.

On topic:
Districts are okay. Better than a centralised, all encompassing city.
God forbid the City educates the same way it controls punture vine. Not good.

Powerball,
FDR confiscated the gold. Sure Nixon did his part but it all started right at the turn of the 20th century.
Some trace the demise even further back. William Jennings Bryan may have destroyed the party system as it was intended.
Crazy, misinformed, Bible thumper that he was. Selective reading.
"Having behind us the producing masses of this nation and the world, supported by the commercial interests, the laboring interests and the toilers everywhere, we will answer their demand for a gold standard by saying to them: You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns, you shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold."

PS.
Please keep in mind that your dollars are no longer based upon the gold standard.
Nixon took the country of that in 1971.
What you have in your wallets is fiat money.
That is, the promise to pay or that the value of your dollar is backed by the Federal Reserve.
Now, if you think there is value to that dollar bill, can you say there is 14 Trillion is Fort Knox?
I don't think there is 14 Trillion worth of gold in the whole world!
But they want you to think so.
That's why Obama can give a taxpayer guaranteed loan to Solyndra and not even think twice about it.
People, you were fleeced a long time ago!!

Go ahead, give them some more of your money.
But before you do perhaps you should watch this...then maybe it won't matter.
