Former long-time Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan has been arrested on charges of distributing meth and soliciting sex with another man in exchange for the drugs. Of course there will be those that will be shocked by these charges since he was supposed to be a Republican. Others will claim further that this is a private matter in Sullivan's life, and that nobody should be looking in his closet.
But when Sullivan was Arapahoe County Sheriff, he was more than willing to look into other people's closets. In fact, he so hated guns in the hands of citizens he wanted an inventory of every gun owned by his constitutents. He wanted to gut concealed carry laws, and keep as much power as possible vested in the government and not the citizen. He used his local authority to try to weaken your gun rights at the state level. If Sullivan had his way, your rights in Northern Colorado would have been restricted or removed. He was a notable RINO, and if you had stayed up-to-date with Dudley Brown's regular reports via Rocky Mountain Gun Owners during that era, you would have been well informed of the weasel's antics.
Of course now Sullivan's friends and family will ask for privacy, and request that you and I stay out of his closet. After all, he's a former sheriff now; a citizen. But his attitudes haven't changed. This RINO believed there were two tiers of people back then. The government and the citizen. Apparently he still believes there are two classes of laws; one for you and one for him. This is why RINOs must be watched closely. They are not to be trusted. If you are a Republican, remember that next time one tells you that you must compromise your values for the sake of the so-called team.

"Sullivan is a Republican, which only enhanced the panache of his gray-haired, paternalistic anti-gun work. The National Sheriff’s Association chose him as Sheriff of the Year in 2001, turning the headaches of gun rights defenders into migraines."
" David Kopel, a Boulder attorney who’s among the world’s most prominent gun-rights advocates, called Sullivan “the most powerful enemy of the right to bear arms in Colorado” in 1990."

Rick Jones,
I see. You are exactly right. Sometimes it is easy to get lost in others preconceptions. You make a good point.
Posted by: Dennis | December 07, 2011 at 06:28 PM
Dennis,
I understand that YOU know who you are and what YOU mean when you self identify, I applaud you for that achievement.
My humble attempt is to rail at those who think THEY know who you are because of the label you give to yourself. My complaint with labels is not in what one calls oneself but in the inferences others lazily attribute to the individual based on preconceptions and misconceptions of what the term means. Where you offer specific examples of what a Conservative is, to you, some attach specific examples of ideas and actions by other self-described Conservatives to you; not knowing you they generalize because they are lazy and corrupt.
The specific is honest, the generalization is flawed.

Rick Jones,
I am an American conservative. A label I wear proudly. I have no problem with the truth. The truth is God. The truth is God's word. Nothing could be more clear, as there is only one truth.
I am so glad that I do not struggle with this issue. That makes my life clear and simple. My greatest challenge, presently, is selecting a nominee for the GOP presidential candidate. None of them have the whole truth. None of them meet all of my criteria.
Our Constitution is based on the Truth. We need to restore it.

I gave up on labels long ago. You may say there is such things as RINOS, (or Republicans, Democrats, Libs, Cons, Indys, Liberterians, etc.), but as for me and Grandpa we DON"T believe!
It is lazy to just dump people's behavior into categories, or political affiliation, as if that means something. It is corrupt to call a man a _____________[fill in your favorite political Party to hate], when the Party is a coalition of individuals; the essence of individual is individuality. And, the pervasive tendency to be lazy and corrupt in order make oneself believe one is making a valid point is pitiful.
A man's actions identify him with infinitely accuracy, who he says he is, including which groups he joins, is so imprecise and so unreliable as to worthless. People lie, yes all of us, and even about themselves; especially when cornered. And people join with other people which only creates a conflagration of entities in flux, and never creates an unique, permanent and precise entity. And anyone who says a group is such and such is just too lazy and corrupt for your time so dismiss them and move on.
Now that I have that out of my system: this Sullivan individual sounds like a person who should be removed from society at large until and if he can overcome his tyrannical tendencies, and his criminal behavior. I doubt that he can ever again be trusted with any position of authority. Let us hope someone cares enough to teach him the errors of his ways. His being the operative identifier.

Tyrant,

Tyrant,
Yup, all 10 are a package deal. Cannot pick and choose. They do not function separately.
Personally I keep the DOI, USC and BOR juggling at all times. The 3 together equal good government. Anything less just doesn’t cut it. When I am feeling rebellious, I throw in the articles of confederation, lol.

Surely Shirley anyone who doesn't support 1 of the Bill of Rights, doesn't support any of them, in their minds they are ALL garbage.

On a side note: Most tweakers are not to be trusted. The few that I have known, craft the most elaborate lies I have ever heard. It is hard to say who is telling the truth.
Hopefully the 11 man investigation squad assigned to this case, can get to the bottom.

No, Sullivan was ensnared with sins of the flesh. HE was also a perfect example of Lord Actons warning, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Complain all you want about RINOs. Don't suggest--as Sam did--that Rs, Ds, or RINOs are somehow flawed in a way that leads to what Pat Sullivan has allegedly done. Sam's suggestion is Exhibit A in my case to prove that Sam is no good.

Shirley,
Unfortunately many of today’s Republican do think like Sullivan.
There is not much diff between Dems and Pubs, both partys are packed with authoritarian, inflationist.
They both want to control your behavior and confiscate the fruits of you labor.
It is like 1 football team with 2 different jerseys. They are fighting together against the other team. There is 22 players on the RD team and just a few of us freedom fighters on the other team.
D’s and R’s are merely fighting over who gets to call the plays and who gets the ball. They have the same goal, kill freedom.

Shirley,
Self-righteousness inflicts us all.
The real point of Sams article was simple. Don’t call this guy a Republican because he did not trust citizens with guns and he wanted 2 sets of law.
Rule for thee, not for me.
If you think like this, you are NO Republican.

Whether someone is a defender of the 2nd Amendment or not has no bearing on whether he might succumb to the demons that have taken hold of Pat Sullivan. Sam's effort to suggest that Sullivan's view of the 2nd Amendment is related to his awful conduct shows how messed up Sam's view of the world is. Those who agree with Sam are patriotic, faithful, and worthy of praise. Those who do not deserve no respect. This is the essence of Holier than Thou--casting the first stone. Pitiful.

I have never believed LEO could investigate drugs and sex crimes without becoming ensnared. You would have to be super human.
Especially porn crime, just looking at it is the problem. You don’t even have to sniff it, smoke it or inject it.
Easy to get sucked in just trying to do your job...
The Bible says to shield your eyes and flee from sin. How can LEO avoid this trap?
The more things are legal, the better things will be for all of us.

Did any of you see the old video footage of Sullivan driving a Jeep Wagoneer into a hostage situation? HE backed out of there so fast; he hit a police car and just about nailed 2 officers. He should have been investigated way back then for drug abuse, do to his insane driving skills.
That hostage situation did involve meth did it not? Maybe Sullivan was more involved with that situation than we know? Somebody needs to dig back into that.
Watch the video and you will see what I am talking about. Hero or Insane?

Drugs, sex and every other sin of the flesh can drag any person down, even non rino Republicans. The Bible makes no exception for Republicans.
I do understand Sams point though; this Sullivan was no Republican do to his anti-gun attitude.

It's like Herman Cain. We should have known he was a sexual deviant since he worked for the Federal Reserve.

Nobody cares to defend Sam's fallacious assertions? Or are you disinterested in honesty too?
Posted by: Shirley | November 30, 2011 at 07:59 PM
Sam sounds human to me. Thank you for reporting this Sam. I did not know this about Sullivan, but then again, I didn't know he existed before this incident. The point about "fence-sitters" is well taken.
despicable human? sounds like the pot calling out the kettle

Gosh Shirley!
You just prove it takes one to know one!
Have you been double-dipping with your liberal mind altering pills again?
Posted by: Powerball | November 30, 2011 at 06:41 PM
Two things about this prove you are a despicable human, Sam. First, you take delight in the personal failings of someone with whom you disagree politically. Secondly, you implicitly assert that you and those with whom you agree politically are not subject to such personal failings. Of course, neither of the two is the truth.
