Many people pride themselves in Weld County conservatism as a bastion of value and standards that hold back the Demoncrats and Socialists. These people choose to embrace an overly-simplistic view of politics that labels Republicans as conservatives and Demoncrats as liberals, and they vote accordingly. In this view Republicans like small government and fewer taxes, and Demoncrats like big government and big spending and taxes. But is this view point actually real? No.
Weld County has been traditionally conservative from its foundations. However, that conservatism has eroded over time. More conservative families are bringing up liberal children that obviously learned liberality at home. Oh! The public education system (K-12, Aims and UNC) are all more than happy to help the process along. (When UNC leader Kay Norton pushes for illegals to receive in-state tuition, and is more than happy to support GLBT groups based on sexual preference alone, we know which way the public education process has swung.)
Not only has the conservative viewpoint eroded privately, but it has also been co-opted. Those within Weld County realize their greatest opportunities for political and community involvement lie within the Republican segment of the system. So, they may not be Republicans at all, but merely pose as one to get into the system. They are RINO's (Republicans in Name Only) or DIABLO's (Democrats in all but Label Only), and deserve to be hunted and culled from the herd. But the Republicans themselves do not police their ranks. This has created internal divisions that are completely justified. Politicians like former Greeley Mayor Tom Selders have flip-flopped back and forth between Republican and Demoncratic ranks periodically, to affect the political system. Others don't flip at all; they merely stay Republican, while inside they are as Demoncrat as the left.
Consider these facts.
- Tom Roche took a cheap shot at Mayor Ed Clark...as a Republican.
- Tom Selders condemned the rightful enforcement of immigration laws in Greeley...as a Republican Mayor of the city.
- Several people blasted Republican candidates for the recent District 6 elections...as Republicans.
- Most of the current administrations in Greeley and other cities (and in the County) are comprised of...you got it. Republicans. Despite having coffers filled with oil and gas revenues, some are wanting more money. All of them have kept regulations, ordinances, taxes and fees at current, high, job- and business-killing levels. They don't cut a thing. And they are Republicans.
So when Greeley Report challenges the status quo, it may offend some so-called conservatives. Why? Because it reveals their true colors. Or because they are shallow idiots. In a political environment like this, sometimes the liberals have better focus and greater unity. You see, being Republican isn't enough. Make sure you are better informed, so that every elected official you meet understands this, too.

Never doubt the will of a morally based, principally centered American.

No, Dennis; I see that those are issues that won't be settled any time soon because of the entrenching of each side into firm stances. There is no room for compromise in the minds of those who feel those issues are the priority over everything else.
Our #1 issue in this country isn't morals. It's the economy & jobs. Let's leave those others aside until we settle the most pressing issue & the one where both sides aren't nearly as dug into their foxholes.
BTW, its not up to a government to determine morals. That's up to the individual. When a government mandates morals, that's just a step away from mandating thought--whether based in religious teaching or based in "do what feels good".

bah,
So you choose money over morals.
keep the change

"You see, being Republican isn't enough."
You mean: "...being a white, ultra-evangelical Christian isn't enough."
The number one issue in this country is our economic status. Leave the social issues aside and we may actually find answers to the economic woes. Instead, too much attention is paid to issues that will NEVER be settled (i.e. abortion).

Bobby J,
Many of us conservatives struggle with the concept of separating church and state. It is obvious, in our Constitution, that we are founded on Judeo-Christian values. Values that I would recommend to anyone. Values by which I strive to live. It is natural for me, and like-minded people to make the connection of American patriotism to our faith, due to the fact that we are founded on Judeo-Christian values.
While I recognize that we have freedom of religion, even the freedom to worship the devil, I sruggle with the fact that people, given this freedom choose to worship the devil (islam). I also struggle with the idea that such a growing number of our population choose to deny, or ignore, the Blessings that we share in America thanks to God. The present struggles of our once great nation are a direct result of our denial of God. To choose to worship the devil transcends patriotism and; therefore, becomes not only anti-Christian, but anti-American. Such are my enemies.
While I am not the Judge, but a sinner, I am American by my own definition and fully capable of voting, forming a militia, and destroying my enemy. God may choose to pull me from this fracas, but until then, I am a sinner and a patriot.

Bobby J,
Republican = American, as described by the Constitution.

Powerball,
The Progressive era started in 1890, never been the same since.
Sad part is, they used religiosity to create a strong central authority.
That is why I hate today Christian coalition and its political outreach. Not that I condone abortion or any other anti God behavior, but a strong central authority is a double edged sword and not part of Gods bigger plan.
Strong central authority is Gods punishment, not Gods salvation.
Moral persuasion, not moral coercion!

The start of the US Housing Bubble
1933-1939 The New Deal is a group of new laws created to fix problems in the Great Depression economy, including methods to increase home ownership.
1934 The National Housing Act of 1934, part of the New Deal, makes more affordable housing and home mortgages. It creates the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) (later United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD) and the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation.
1938 Fannie Mae is founded by the government under the New Deal. It is a "" stockholder-owned"" corporation that purchases and securitizes mortgages in order to ensure that funds are consistently available to the institutions that lend money to home buyers.

Obamanation is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence. The term has its origins in the period in the United States known as the Obama Administration, lasting roughly from the 2009 thru 2012.
The term is modeled after McCarthyism of the 1940's.

It will be the latest sobering economic milestone that few were hoping to see:
The U.S. national debt – any day now – will soar above the $15 trillion mark.
As of this writing, the total debt is $14.97 trillion, so moving beyond the symbolic $15 trillion is a foregone conclusion. When the unwelcome milestone is reached, it will come at a volatile time.
Quiz: What is the interest only portion of the debt to yearly GDP?
Hint: Are you ready to fund you own dam entitlements?
Checkmate!
