Last night the Greeley City Council revealed their latest comprehensive plan designed to market Greeley as a great place to live, work and grow. While the work that had gone into the plan was good, it was not innovative and lacked any real change. It was "more-of-the-same," repackaged.
Greeley has not been innovative for years. They blindly adopt the same international code standards as others even when it negatively impacts city residency and growth. They try to be like others (e.g., Loveland and Ft. Collins) while telling us they want to be different. Under the reign of this city council and mayor they haven't rolled back taxes, and are still very tightly regulated. (You can't even have a flashing neon "open" sign in Greeley.) Greeley has killed more businesses in the last 24 months that it has rewarded for starting. They love big business, but are not small-business friendly. Greeley wants to enhance the wonderful downtown while ignoring Muslims and gangs that may frequent the area. But they have a new plan.
This is precisely the problem with well-intentioned bureaucracy. They perpetuate themselves at all costs. They hate to slash, cut, and deregulate. Instead they manage, plan, and ask for more money. Hopefully Greeley will experience a measure of success. But if not, perhaps someone needs to send them this column. It's based on free-market concepts; not government same-think repackaged.

The fees are not imposed to generate a profit. Instead, they are designed to reimburse the city (and its people) for the costs associated with providing infrastructure that serves the new home. Those costs do not vary by market.

On a snowy, bitingly cold night in the middle of finals week, well over 1,000 people, mostly young, jammed into the Iowa State student union for Paul's appearance. So many people showed up that the organizers had to open two side rooms.

The Prince of Peace?
“They come here and explicitly explain it to us,” he continued. “The CIA has explained it to us. It said they come here and they want to do us harm because we are bombing them! What is the whole world about the drone being in Iran? And we’re begging and pleading and how are we going to start a war to get the drone back? Why were we flying a drone over Iran? Why do we have to bomb so many countries?

Let’s us talk about that Denver Post and their selective censorship. I don’t think it is good for Colorado Politics.
I don’t think the DENVER Post should have editorial exemption. They should have to follow the same laws the rest of us follow.
I don’t think their online registered user, SL-10, should be able to collect welfare and disability and then get on the boards, 24/7/365 and post pro Marxist comments. The person, SL-10 is not disabled if he can type and create sometimes coherent post. SL-10 should be investigate for fraud.

Ahhh now we are getting somewhere. Greeley has the same fees yet the market value, in other words, the market demand, is far less than other areas.
Think about what you just said. Check mate.
Posted by: Bobby J. | December 16, 2011 at 06:34 AM
I don't. I recognize those fees as very consistent, or lower, than comparable cities. Our housing prices (far lower than neighboring cities to this day) is clear evidence of this.

Shirley,
The housing bust is a combination of many factors and I am sure I understand them much more than you do, but how can you overlook nearly 30K in city fees?
Posted by: Bobby J. | December 15, 2011 at 08:40 PM
I own a successful business. You don't understand the housing bust.

Shirley,
By the end of the housing boom, the permits imposed by city government on typical residential new construction home, exceed 27,000 dollars. If you do not think this excessive city greed has substantially slowed the new housing market, you do not understand business.

Shirley,
Hard work and enterprise is Biblical, hoarding and stinginess is not. Reward and merit is Biblical, theft is not. So to say that Jesus and the Bible are anti-rich is not altogether true.
As far as Rosen is concerned, I only brought up his name because he is Jewish as is Mark Levin and Michael Medved. The 3 of them hate Ron Paul because Ron Paul is not an Israel lapdog or a war monger or a slave driver or a fiat banker. Ron Paul happens to be a sober Christian who has been married to the same woman for 54 years. He has also delivered 4000 babies and never performed an abortion. The link I provided is an hour long interview in which Ron Paul fields question form various reporters in New Hampshire. Ron Paul does a terrific job explaining his position, defending liberty and destroying the welfare/warfare state.
God will be giving America 1 last chance November 2012 to do the right thing and elect Ron Paul as President of these Untied States.
Watch the video, get informed, and make the correct decision November 2012.

Dennis,
I have read your post, sober or not, you have limited clarity.
Moderation is crucial but abstinence is over rated and not Biblically mandated. Addiction and abstinence are 2 sides of the same coin.
Also, sobriety must be expanded to include pharmaceuticals that cross the blood brain barrier, nicotine, caffeine, sugar, and the internet, not just the old fashioned alcohol and drugs.
A better challenge is as follows.
Pray daily for discernment and vigilance.
Dear God,
I come to you in the name of The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and pray that you grant me discernment and vigilance.
In His Name,
Amen

And when will you identify just ONE business Greeley's heavy hand has buried? Just one.

Sobriety from Diet Coke, Dennis? That's all I consume. With the exception of abortion, on what subject is Mike Rosen less than conservative? He is indeed to identify flaws in logic and rational thought. I understand how that might be offensive to some. I find it refreshing. Dumb people often need to be reminded of their ignorance.
Posted by: Shirley | December 15, 2011 at 07:18 PM
Mike Rosen is the definition of arrogance. His caustic personality very much resembles yours Shirley. He rarely has anything positive to say about anybody but himself. His politics border on RINO. I can't stand to listen to him treat others as if they were trailer trash. He is an ass.
I challenge both Bobby J and Shirley to 3 months of sobriety.
clear thought

Yeah--Jesus really dug rich folk. I'm no socialist, but I wouldn't bet against Jesus having warmer feelings for socialists than pure capitalists. And, Mike Rosen is about as good as it gets when it comes to politics.

Dont be fooled by the DenverPost and AM radio blackout. Forget about Levin, Medved and Rosen, they hates all of us non Jews.

Shirley,
No, I prefer to post at the Post. It is the nucleus of the socialist cesspool. That SL-10 character is a chronic welfare recipient who posts Marxist tripe, 24/7. What disability, he should get a job as a typist. He is scamming the system, but aren’t they all.
I really shouldn’t blame SL-10 for my permanent suspension. Recently I tore up the posters on the, Jesus was a socialist, thread. Those Godless commies at the DP, hate freedom loving Christians like me.

Try the Greeley Gazette, Bobby. They love to post (selected) comments. Don't criticize the 3rd grade level of writing and lack of any local journalism, however. I will agree that Greeley has stifled business development in the area of medical mj dispensaries.
Posted by: Shirley | December 15, 2011 at 12:51 PM
Like I said, it is the taxes and permit fees that kill buisiness.
Greeley is no better or worse, than other cities in this respect.
Shirley who are you at the Denver Post? That freak welfare victim SL-10, just had me permanently banned from the DP.
News Papers claim they are private, therefore they do not have to grant unlimited free speech yet they hide behind editorial privilege. They do not have to disclose any campaign or issue committee contributions. They do not have to register, the rest of do.
Just another double standard.

We're still in bidness, Bobby J. I'm as opposed to onerous government regulations as the next guy, but Greeley is not the place where such regulations (at least relative to comparably sized cities) exist. To assert that Greeley is stifling business through excess regulations is foolish and dishonest.

Just messin.

Shirley,
Maybe the welfare given to King Soopers is causing other business to fail? Soopers does have lower prices because of this.
In general, I would say taxes cause most business to fail. Only business with continual new investment or welfare stays afloat. Customer driven business rarely succeeds these days.
Permits can also take toll.
To blame it all on city is wrong, County,State and Federal taxation is the new vampire economy.
Posted by: Bobby J. | December 15, 2011 at 06:53 AM
How should the city help? Sounds like socialism or corporate welfare. Businesses usually fail on their own merits. Some survive by government subsidies. Do you want those?
