Thanks to the Greeley Gazette there is now a conservative (and free) alternative to the Lib Trib. Greeley Report publishes articles by them verbatim and unedited in keeping with long-standing agreement. The following is from their editorial team.
We at the Gazette have thoroughly studied each school board candidate. Everybody knows our schools are not “exemplary”, a term used by a current board member in self-congratulations. Nearly as many residents also know that 99% of all votes taken were unanimous. That is with the exception of member Brett Reese, who voted in dissent many times. So two of the candidates running can be easily crossed off the list if our goal really is change and innovation. Mark Hinze and Dr. Richard are both likeable people. However, both have voted in complete lockstep with President Trimberger and Vice Prez Stack, both retired teachers. We don’t need more retired teachers right now. We don’t need more PhD’s in education or curriculum. We need innovative thinkers, managers, non-retirees… we need new blood.
Dr. Richard, remember, was a hostile leader in the controversial historic preservation district attempt in the Cranford neighborhood, which would have forced numerous new codes and regulations on people’s homes and investments. She fought for years leading the collectivist effort. After finally losing, like a true Democrat, Dr. Richard blamed those darn investors, “Greater weight was given to a handful of investment property owners.”
Dr. Richard and Mr. Hinze along with most of the other candidates, have stated they are “absolutely in favor” of raising taxes for education. The entire board, minus Reese, not only signed, but gathered signatures for the now-failed Initiative 25,an overarching income and sales tax increase. We fear both Hinze and Dr. Richard would only continue the excuse-making (need more money) and failures of D6.
But here is the most disappointing part.We have recently learned that the current board has entered several of its own candidates into the current election. There are at least a couple candidates who have served on this board four years ago when D6 was placed on academic suspension! Some have recently held signs in public protests at Republican events. There are at least two who have been actively involved in the leadership of the Weld County Democrats. There is one who is a fervent homosexual activist. Be very careful of your vote!
Fortunately, after speaking with them extensively, there are four candidates who don’t believe this district is “exemplary” and have not been hand-picked by the establishment/administration. They aren’t paid by the system they need to fix.
Geoff Broughton, Bret Elliott, Scott Rankin, Tim Pike
Each of these men are well-respected in every way in this community. They have families here. Very few voters realize that our educational systems are almost entirely staffed with very liberal leaders and teachers. These men are not. They attend church weekly and favor smaller, yet more effective government. We believe they will finally open the doors of transparency and, first admit, then solve the problems inside our schools.
This election is mail-in ballots only, and they’re coming your way Oct 12. This is your only chance to break the grip of the small-minded, status-quo establishment for the sake of our children, teachers and our community.

Small or large, government will never be effective.
The preference for small over large is because it cost less and does less damage.

My 2 cents worth - if the Gazette is free it is overpriced.

Let's just hope they attend the right church every week, say the right prayers, and read the right scriptures.
